Changes to Women’s Preventive Health Benefits

Effective 8/1/12* there are additional preventive services covered for women’s health due to the Accountable Care Act (ACA). These will generally be covered at 100% when provided in-network. They include the following:

  • well-woman visits, including preventive prenatal visits
  • screening for gestational diabetes
  • human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing
  • counseling for sexually transmitted infections
  • counseling and screening for human immune-deficiency virus (HIV)
  • women’s FDA-approved contraceptive methods (including sterilization but not abortion) and counseling, as prescribed
  • breastfeeding support, supplies and counseling
  • screening and counseling for interpersonal and domestic violence

*Please Note: These changes will go into effect for current groups at their renewal. Because of these plan changes, new ID cards will be automatically distributed to all member’s at renewal and will be released on or around the 20th of the month prior. When groups make plan changes, another batch of ID cards will be released to reflect their updated plan information.
